Set up roles for a hospital's nurses and cashiers
When you need this
You run the lab, and a partner hospital's staff will use your system: its nurses send lab requests for payment and take samples, and its reception or accounts takes the payments and checks patients in. Each group gets its own built-in role.
The roles are made for you when you add your first partner hospital:
| Role | For | Can | Can't |
|---|---|---|---|
| Partner hospital nurse | The ward's nurses | Send lab requests for payment, take and label samples | Take payments or check patients in |
| Partner hospital cashier | The hospital's reception or accounts | Take payments and check patients in | Start a new lab request |
| Partner hospital clerk | A hospital where one person does it all | Everything above | – |
Steps
- Go to Settings › Team and invite the person with the right role: Partner hospital nurse, Partner hospital cashier or Partner hospital clerk.
- Go to Setup › Partners, open the hospital, and on its Staff tab choose the person under Assign a member. Click Assign.
Do this for each person.

What you should see
- The nurse sees Lab requests in the sidebar and New lab request. The request has no Payments card, and its only button is Send for payment.
- The cashier sees Lab requests with the Waiting for payment chip, and Check in patient on a request. They have no New lab request button.
If something goes wrong
- The three roles aren't on the role list: they are made when you add your first partner hospital. If you already had a role with the same name, that one was kept and the built-in one wasn't made – check what your role allows under Settings › Roles.
- The nurse sees Check in patient: they have the cashier's or clerk's role. Change it to Partner hospital nurse.
- The cashier has only Send for payment: they have the nurse's role. Change it to Partner hospital cashier.
- The person sees no requests, or "You can't check patients in yet": they haven't been assigned to the hospital yet. Do step 2.
- The person sees Visits, not Lab requests: their role isn't a partner role. Give them one of the three above.
You can change what a built-in role allows under Settings › Roles, like any other role.
