Keep a patient's results for the doctor to give

When you need this

The requesting doctor wants to give the patient the results in person, for example for an HIV or pregnancy test, so the patient should not get a "your results are ready" text from the lab. You choose this when you check the patient in. The doctor is still emailed.

This only matters when the lab texts or emails patients (see Tell doctors and patients when lab results are ready).

Steps

  1. Check the patient in as usual, on New Visit, and add the tests.
  2. Under When the results are ready, untick Text the patient that the results are ready.
  3. Click Check in patient.

What you should see

When the last test is authorised, the order's Notices card shows the patient's text as Not sent: held at check-in, and the doctor's email as Sent.

If something goes wrong

  • There is no "When the results are ready" box: the lab doesn't text or email patients, so there is nothing to hold, or no tests are on the visit yet.
  • You unticked it on a draft and want the text after all: open the draft, tick the box again and save.
